Little skirt, I love you.

I have an inkling that I could pull off a little a-line skirt if I paired it with some clunky heels and opaque black tights.  Here are some other sisters making the little skirt rock in their own special ways.
Zooey Deschannel (on set of New Girl) proving that us pear-shaped sisters can make the little skirt work.
Helena from Brooklyn Blonde making leather look cutesy and pleating look cute.

I love how Kirstin from Doll Parade styled this geek chic.  She therefore added bulk to upper half which would balance out my lower half...hmmmm...

Keiko Lynn always makes everythign the cutest ever.  I mean...
Julietta from Maffashion rocking this wispy black number.
Here's some colour!  Manrepeller making a flowered, pleated skirt so damn hot.  Man repelling?  Me think not!
And this one from Pumps and Kicks is just adorable and in one of my most favorite colours!

So can I wear one?  We shall see...

Tough Black Leather

So, I'm looking (or at least dreaming) for a tough black leather jacket.  I have a brown one that is nice but I think a black moto style one just says something completely different and can be so incredibly modern while still being totally classic.  Ya know?
I was browsing on Danier.com today and here are some beauties that I found:
I think this one gets points in the "toughness" catagory but the hood comes with and I think I might get sick of that.  The hood IS detachable though and at $199 this is kind of a steal.
This one is the shit.  It'd made for a woman's body, it has that toughass zipper at the top, the leather is top-quality.  Downside?  $599.  Ouch.
Another toughie.  Totally motorcycle like with the quilting and all the zippers.  Definitely a tough contender in this match.
This is the first one I picked out, probably because it's safe and this collars look good on me. But it's a little too "literary major" and not near enough balls-out badass.

I put this one in for fun. I love it.  But, it's not exactly timeless.

I want it...

To quote my two year old, "I wannit, I wannit..." ad nauseum.  But, really, how supreme?
Look at it in grey, all styled-up on Pumps and Kicks:
So fly!

One of the boys...

I love girls dressing as boys. Or boyish. I think it's so cute, effortless, chic and doable in daily life  Instead of traipsing around in high heels and froufrou accessories that "keep you boring" as you are unable to do much in them, why NOT borrow from the boys and pick chic pieces that are easy to move, do and play in?  Above shot from Colorelle.
Elin Kling always making all the right moves.
Cat Power always looking tough, feminine and effortless.  How does she do it?
I love love love these highwaisted wideleg pants.  They would look terrible on me but they look so great on her.  Photo courtesy of the Sartorialist.
This is such a good outfit that does so much for this gals body.  This is a Beatles fan getting escorted off the tarmac at one of the groups appearances (flying into an airport).  Photo from the awesome blog Tomboy Style.
How badass is this?  Casey always knows how to rock a menswear inspired look.  I think I know what to do with my new waxed black pants!

It's a bad man's world, I just live (and try to look good) in it.

Pumpkin Muffins-So Good!

These muffins are so yummy and so healthy that your kids will love them and you will love giving some to them. Yeah! I love when it works out like that.  (It rarely does, right?)
These are such a hit that I served them as "cupcakes" for Jack's birthday instead of cake, and everyone was super happy.  I put "branded" them in Spiderman cupcake paper and no one questioned a thing.

Pumpkin Muffins recipe found here and printed below (with some of my revisions).  Enjoy!

Pumpkin Muffins
Adapted from the American club, in Kohler, Wisconsin via Gourmet Magazine
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour ( I used half all-purpose and half whole wheat flour)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup canned solid-pack pumpkin (from a 15 ounce can)
1/3 cup vegetable oil (I used half oil/half apple sauce)
 2 large eggs
1 teaspoon pumpkin-pie spice (allspice)
1 1/4 cups plus 1 tablespoon sugar (I used all brown sugar)
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Put oven in middle position and preheat oven to 350°F. Put liners in muffin cups.
Whisk together pumpkin, oil, eggs, pumpkin pie spice, 1 1/4 cups sugar, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl until smooth, then whisk in flour mixture until just combined.
Stir together cinnamon and remaining 1 tablespoon sugar in another bowl.
Divide batter among muffin cups (each should be about three-fourths full), then sprinkle tops with cinnamon-sugar mixture. Bake until puffed and golden brown and wooden pick or skewer inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean, 25 to 30 minutes.
Cool in pan on a rack five minutes, then transfer muffins from pan to rack and cool to warm or room temperature.
Yum!

Here are some pics of us enjoying it, for your enjoyment. :)

Happy eating!

A Few of My Favorite Things

Beautiful flowers sent for my birthday.  I am so lucky to have such awesome people in my life!
Look at those Gerberas!  My b-day was on the 12th and they are still going strong!
An amazing little tin that we (Ava) found at a Garage Sale in ritzy part of town (always the best GSs right?)  Anyway, this one reminded me of ones my Oma had from Germany.
Look at these cute slippers!  My friend Terri made me these little sockette ones and some awesome bootie ones for my b-day.
Adorable salt and pepper shakers.  I have a weakness.  If I didn't enjoy such a clean house I think I might let myself have a collection.
My life.  Everyday.  All.  Day. :)
Darn it.  This picture flipped on me and I can't flip it back.  This is my new collar necklace from the Bay.  I'm wearing it tonight to see the Jersey Boys.  I won tickets through a draw I entered at the Exhibition.  I have no recollection of said draw being entered.  But oh well...
A cute little glass dish I got for my odds and ends on my dresser.  From the sale Garage Sale.
Back of el cheapo Joe t-shirt that I scored for $5.  It looks so cute on.  Excuse the wrinkles!!
Beautiful beaded Dex shirt I picked up cheap at the Bay.
Gorgeous gauzy tunic from Bootlegger.  You know me and my navy and neutrals!
Awesome sauce boots that I want a chance to wear!! Now!
Cute flats, also from Bootlegger/Ricki's.  Sometimes you just score some good stuff there.
 Badass waxed jeans.  Finally!
Great herring-bone patterned sweater by Only (available at Tonic on Broadway, Saskatoon.  Haven't been there?  Go!).  It is cut so well and looks great with skirts to a night out or jeans to the cabin.  Love.

What do you love?  Let me know.
