Bits and Bobs

A few things I picked up and love...ya know.  Being a girl and all. :)
This ADORABLE peplum top from Banana Republic.  It fits like a glove and looks amazing.  I feel like a step ford wife/Barbie/Peg Bundy/50s bobby-soxer in it and I love all those references to death.

Here's how that white "leather-look" peplum from one of my last posts on me.  It's cute right?  I got it to fit a little looser because I think tight + leather +  white could go very  White Snake video in no time.  Loose looking is much more casual and "of the moment"...it's all about a balance.  The pants are from way back and actually went to the Elizabeth Fy Society on Monday.  So long and good luck!

From Banana Republic to go with little yellow peplum but I find I am wearing them with a lot.  Even a black tank top.  Lemon yellow is totes #trending.  Didn't ya know?

Attention: Roxy Rave About To Commense
Ok, these pants.  You guys are going to think I'm crazy with these.  But let me first say, as a pear shaped girl who is also on the tall side (5'8.5") it's very hard to find shorts that fit, never mind are also flattering. Everything now seems to be labia-grazing and don't get me wrong, if I had the legs I would be WERKIN' that look... but I don't.  To compensate, in summer I wear a lot of A-line dresses and pencil skirts which are great but sometimes I just want to go take the kids to the park, bend down to tie my shoes, or sit cross legged.
Enter these $12 Wal*Mart wonders.  They are glorified bike-shorts but they have enough stiffness to not "hug" all those wrong places on me, they go down to right above knee so no unsightly bulge tin that area and they are polka-dotted, so why not? If you have a hard time with shorts, go to your nearest Wally World and give 'em a whirl.  Again, why not?
Tata little tinkers!!

New Lippy!

I have a new favorite lipstick.  I wanted to jump on the purple train that is popular right now and if you know me you know I love a bold lip.  SO instead of red, why NOT purple?
Plus, this one was around $4.
It's called Revlon Berry Haute #660.
It goes on creamy and it's not too dark (I really built it up for these pictures!)
I wear it with my new Arbonne warm toned eye shadow palette and it balances each other one (one warm, one cool).  Love it.

Roxanne's On Her Soap Box Again

I just went to one of my favorite sites to visit today (Cup of Jo) and she posted about taking her son to the beach and not having a swimsuit and therefore letting him go nude (he's 2).  People whispered and some were uncomfortable so she felt better putting his diaper back on and letting him play in that.
She then asked her readers if this is a do or a don't?
This is what I posted:

Our society is so weird in North America! This would never be an issue in Europe or South America!! It's a baby! It's a naked body! Hello, how beautiful! And normal! And guess what, everyone's naked under their clothes!
It's totally ok for tweens to have push up bras and wear stamped-sized shorts and skirts but a naked baby at the beach? Shocker!
I think it's awesome for children to see other children naked and see that they have the same things going on or that the opposite sex has other things going on and it's no big deal.
This is part of the reason why we have unprepared people getting pregnant or having difficult/scary sexual altercations: no one has a clue what's going on underneath and it's because of the lack of something as simple as casual nakedness in childhood.
As for people worried about pedophiles: they are out there no matter what and you have to look after your kids no matter what. Them being clothed or naked is not stopping or spurning on these sick people.

I encourage you to read the post and then the responses from other people.  Some are very educated and thought-provoking.
What do you think?

Book Review: Let's Pretend This Never Happened

Let's Pretend this Never Happened by Jenny Lawson
LOL!
This book is hilarious!
If you like David Sedaris or Cheslsea Handler you will love this book!
Why? Because it is also comedic, a memoir, about a crazy-ass dad, mental health issues, life, you know...LOL stuff?
I don't want to give too much away and I am really not interested in writing a wing-baggy review, but I am very happy that I bought this, if only to make me burst out laughing when reading it into the wee hours (and it also helped me address some of my own mental health issues?).  It is one of those books you read in two days because every spare chance you get you want to pick it up and get a hit.
I'm sure you will laugh as well as Jenny takes us on a whirl-wind ride through her ridiculous childhood in rural Texas through to being a mother herself and trying to shield her daughter from rural Texas (and then also realizing, hey, it's not sooooo bad, right?)
Again, I don't even want to give you an anecdote because I want you to read it (and because I'm sure you can get these off the intermabob)
For a bit more of Jenny go see her blog The Bloggess

Roxy Rave: Benefit's "Hervana" Blush

I picked this up with a gift card I got for my birthday and because I work at Shoppers Drug Mart and get 30% off, otherwise the $36 price tag would make this little gem a bit out of my league.
But, I am so glad that the stars aligned and I got this.  I head from lots of YouTube beauty gurus that is was great, and most of them had a similar complexion to my own (re: fair) so I bought it.
And I love it.

It makes my cheeks flush with this amazing cool but warm glow.  It is very ethereal and does not try to compete with a heavy eye or dark mouth (as pictured on me, above).  I think this blush would look amazing on more than just the pale as the cool berry tones and warm tans would bring out the best in most complexions.
If you are ever near a Shoppers or Sephora or another Benefit counter that you know of, give it a try.  You won't be disappointed!

Roxy Rant

L'Oreal Base Coat.

It just plain sucks.  It's thick and sticky and has been since I bought it.  The thickness makes the dry time for my nail polish go up by about a half hour (if it dries at all!)
It doesn't seem to make my polish last any longer AND to add insult to injury, the brush has come up one of the slits in the side of the wand and now is all fanned out and f-ed up which makes application a b*tch.
Grrrr.....

Roxy Rave

I needed a new mascara, and the "high-end" ones I had bought from Benefit and MAC sucked so I decided to take some advice from the beauty bloggers and go for this drugstore mascara that looked good.
Well, I've been using it for a couple weeks now and I have to say I'm so glad I bought it.  I bought it in a sale at Shopper's Drug Mart so it was around $12.  Called Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Jumbo Lash Mascara.

I use it everyday for "normal" and natural lashes, and I've used it in layers as a Night Out big lash look. Delivers everytime!
Another a cool thing about Physicians Formula is that a lot of their priducts right now have $9 mail-in rebates, so if there was something you wanted to try, do it now!
