At the Cabin!

We are at the cabin this week as Dallas is on holidays and I am on perpetual holidays right now.  Yay!
All the usual suspects are away (Granny and Grandpa on cruise to Alaska and Av visiting Oma and Opa in BC) so it's just Dallas and Jack and I.  Very quiet and nice.  It's great when there are lots of people but this not having to work around other people's schedule thing is great too!

Allo!  Me in our cabin which I've obviously decorated with pin up girls and pictures of Johnny Depp. (shirt: thrifted but originally Warehouse One, bracelet: arm band from the Ex)

Our bedroom! I needed a clothing rack...duh!  Next posts: what I pack/wear at the lake. :)

Celfie!

Dallas' new truck and our cabin tucked away in the back.  The one you can see is really Charlene and Roger's cabin and the one we reside it is attached by a deck and you can kinda see it's roof in the background there.

The water level is rising like crazy at our lake (Lake Manitou) and it's totally encroaching on the park (and the road, and a hotel and...).  I am a firm believer in kids NOT dressing "cool"...as you can see with Jack here.

Some park equipment under water. Lake Manitou is a salt-water lake. Also dubbed the "dead sea of Canada."  It's waters are said to have healing properties because of the high levels of magnesium, sodium and other minerals.

Spiderboy, Spiderboy...

Peace yo! (look at that water!!!)

Our cabin is at the top right of this hill.  It's great being so close to the park! Soon the kids will be able to wander down on their own.

To get an idea,  this is the view from the road in front of our cabin looking down to the park/lake.

Jack made us get this toy at the Bargain shop in Watrous (closest neighbouring town-5 mins up the road-has amazing video store and bakery).  It's a dinosaur with removable flesh so you can see bones...?

Our neighbours lawn figurine.  It gets us every time! :)

Some more of the lake/rising waters.

Me and Jackie Magee

So, yeah.  That's our cabin! We have so much fun and spend so much time here in the summer that I thought I would share it with you.
Stay tuned for my "what I pack" beauty and fashion editions for the cabin coming up soon!

Body Shop Haul

I luuurve The Body Shop and I did some shopping yesterday as they had a sale...and anyway, I got so many great things that I love and always reach for.  And I'm going to share them with you:
I've been using this in the shower and It's amaze! All the scrubs I got are salt scrubs which means they are super exfoliating and because they are The Body Shop formulation, they are also super nourishing.  And the smell!!!! I could eat it! Perfect fresh, summer scent!

2 x 200 ml Body Butters.  One is a Christmas scent that was on sale for $5 and is in the scent Cranberry Joy (sweet and tangy Cranberry smell that you can taste on your tongue!) and Passion Fruit (OMG! Yum! Can only be described by me as "Purply Floral.")

And because I love that Passion Fruit scent so much, I got the Body Wash.

A 300 ml TUB of Shea Body Scrub.  Smells warm and nutty.

Another 300 ml hub of Olive Body Scrub which is more of a lotion-y scrub over a salt scrub so I'm looking forward to trying that out.  Smells clean and gender-neutral (and not at all like the olive bar at your local grocery store).

THIS PRODUCT!!! I was looking for a shimmery dry oil and have actually been trying to use my Shoppers Optimum Points to get a Nuxe version that I saw in Lou Lou magazine last month, I think?  But you have to go to special Shopper's and none of the three I've been to in the last 2 weeks are "special" enough so...long story short...screw them! I got this one waaaayyy cheaper and I am absolutely in love.
Here it is straight from the bottle, and then you rub it in and it gives you a subtly bronzy shimmer that makes your tan look fabulous, your skin look healthy, and gives you a glow.  Beautiful! Out of all the products I mention in this post, I recommend this one the most!

A 400 ml TUB of Coconut Body Butter.  The smell is tropical, coconut deciousness!

And this Christmas leftover came home with me too.

Originally $25 (which is still awesome), out was on deal for $12.50 and it comes with a mini shower gel (love to travel with The Body Shop body washes, they double as bubble bath for the kids as well!), a 50 ml body butter, a little lip butter, and an Eau de Toilette.  All in the incredibly yummy, girly, sweet, summery scent of their Strawberry line,  And a matte red heart tin to boot!

And here's an instagram-y picture of this months LOU LOU with some orange knock-off Ray Bans from the beach in Mexico.  By the way, have you checked out my Instagram? I'm roxcandymountain... :)

Bits and Bobs

A few things I picked up and love...ya know.  Being a girl and all. :)
This ADORABLE peplum top from Banana Republic.  It fits like a glove and looks amazing.  I feel like a step ford wife/Barbie/Peg Bundy/50s bobby-soxer in it and I love all those references to death.

Here's how that white "leather-look" peplum from one of my last posts on me.  It's cute right?  I got it to fit a little looser because I think tight + leather +  white could go very  White Snake video in no time.  Loose looking is much more casual and "of the moment"...it's all about a balance.  The pants are from way back and actually went to the Elizabeth Fy Society on Monday.  So long and good luck!

From Banana Republic to go with little yellow peplum but I find I am wearing them with a lot.  Even a black tank top.  Lemon yellow is totes #trending.  Didn't ya know?

Attention: Roxy Rave About To Commense
Ok, these pants.  You guys are going to think I'm crazy with these.  But let me first say, as a pear shaped girl who is also on the tall side (5'8.5") it's very hard to find shorts that fit, never mind are also flattering. Everything now seems to be labia-grazing and don't get me wrong, if I had the legs I would be WERKIN' that look... but I don't.  To compensate, in summer I wear a lot of A-line dresses and pencil skirts which are great but sometimes I just want to go take the kids to the park, bend down to tie my shoes, or sit cross legged.
Enter these $12 Wal*Mart wonders.  They are glorified bike-shorts but they have enough stiffness to not "hug" all those wrong places on me, they go down to right above knee so no unsightly bulge tin that area and they are polka-dotted, so why not? If you have a hard time with shorts, go to your nearest Wally World and give 'em a whirl.  Again, why not?
Tata little tinkers!!

Shopping My Closet

I'm over buying a ton of stuff that I never wear and that gives me buyers remorse and makes me broke and then I have this huge closet stuffed with crap and still have no idea what to wear and feel like a jerk.  Whew!
So,  I'm staying home and making the best of what I've got.  Choosing the things that I know how to work with and the things that look good on me.  There are things in my wardrobe that I don't even wear but I love them.  Do I really need more? Not right now!
Super blurry OOTD.
One of these days I'll get up the gumption to force someone else to take proper photos of me, until then...

Did my hurr all cute today.  Took this awkward photo.
Braided front at one side and brought back into a "topsy tail" that I then tucked up and pinned.  Saw it on Pinterest!

I always try to get the season's "hottest shade" of polish so I feel current and cool but then they are hard to apply or look like shit or are just not for me.  This is OPI's Flashbulb Fuchsia which I've had a while, is an old colour of theirs, and it just looks good on everyone and is a lovely colour.

Look at this scarf from Spring.  I need to wear it more.  It's everything to me.

I'm always looking for the perfect light sweater/coverup for over sleeveless shirts/dresses for windy days/cool nights in summer.  Hello, I already have/one.  /// There/I'm done.

This picture is SHIT but this shirt is amazing! It's a peplumy creamy white top made of faux leather with mesh side details.  It is so cute! Really, it is.  I'll do an OOTD soon.

I mean, over jeans?  I've only worn this once for a few hours at West Edmonton mall.  Why?

Brought this puppy out of my Summer Clothes Tote in the basement and remembered how much I loved it last year.  How did I forget it?  How did I live without it? (Side note: look at the rank pits. I've worn this shirt A LOT).

Got this H&M navy, high waisted skirt in a clothing swap (thanks Maggie!) and am dying to wear it this summer.  I just went to Value Village to get some stripped shirts to wear with.

I've shown this shirt before and I'll probably show it again.  It's this amazing rayon that will probably look and feel the same until the day I die and beyond. I just pulled it out of a bag that was crumpled inside a tote in the depths of my damp basement. And it's hardly wrinkled.  With a high-waisted body con skirt?  Fuggedabouddit!

This sweater is high-low as you can see.  But I'm tall + have had two kids + it's juniors = it's too high in the front.
No abs?  No problem.  I'll throw it over a maxi dress when it gets nippily.

Remember when I said that scarf was everything?  This.  This is also everything.  It's a flowy, floral crop top that is too adorable for words.  Last summer and in Mexico in November, I wore it over tighter cotton midi dresses or over a neon cami with a body con skirt. If you have the legs, these look great with little jorts.

The sister to my "everything" shirt. Gives way better boob though. And even looks good all crumply?

Me, being a Frida Kahsshole.  This wrap my mom-in-law brought back for me from Cuba.  I'm totally going to start wearing shawls.  If the Brady girls can do it, so can I!

I mean, right?

Deese doh.  Polka dot harem pants.  I kind of pull them off.  A bit.  Why not?

Things I'm Loving

Ok, I'm back! And I've totally made a vow to myself and to my loyal subjects (you?) that I will blog more (and more and more).  Why not? It makes me happy and it feeds the creative beast inside me.
I thought I'd kick of my new spell with a simple "Things I'm Loving" post.  Sooo..here goes,
Things I'm Loving
Oops! Let's just start with the good stuff.  Beaver town!

So, I'm starting to grow quite a situation.  Haven't sugared since before I got married in November (hey, I'm married now bitch!) Anyway, one of Dallas' friends got wind of my "70s bush" and declared it uncouth.  The nerve! But, I do plan on spending some considerable time at the pool this summer so, I guess I better "throw in the towel" and throw away the beach coverup.  This baby's coming out to play! This one says it's a battery powered trimmer and a razor.  Battery powered you say?  I'm no stranger...

This lil' pup kind of has these teeth/brushes that you can add on to the razor to do the trim job.  Manual labour? It's great if you can get it! I'll tell you how they pan out.

Cake is a delicious smelling brand of bath products that no one but your rich, childless aunt Sylvia can afford.  Thank goodness my local Superstore (and Target) carry the lower-end line.  They smell solo yum!  I got the little set of 4 "hair and body" mists.

Cute, right?

The scents are: lemon & cream, vanilla & cream, coconut & cream and strawberry & cream.

Here I posed them with the new vase and silk flowers I picked up from Ikea.  Adorbs!

Here's a mint green candle plate in the same line as my Ikea vase.

Ignore the mess. But this mirror, right? From Winners for like $20. Cray!

Mags for days! Used my Optimum points.  Mama didn't raise no dummy!

Got the kids some vases and flowers too.  Jack.  I know.  He is my little Clinton Kelly. Or a Designer Guy or something.  He loves to tell my how to arrange the place.  It's a Libra thing.

Ava's flowers.  The kids believe the little head flower hiding in the  greenery  is a special "sleeping flower" and will put you right to sleep.  I dunno...
So, anyway, yeah.  Those are the things that I'm loving!
